Contractor Insurance Requirements
- Independent Contractor Owner Operators with a gross vehicle weight (GVW) of 10,000 pounds and under must have a commercial policy with coverage consisting of $100,000 bodily injury liability insurance per person, $300,000 total bodily injury liability insurance per accident, and $50,000 property damage liability per accident.
- Independent Contractor Owner Operators with a gross vehicle weight (GVW) of 10,001 to 20,000 pounds must have a commercial policy with coverage consisting of a single combined limit of $300,000.
- Independent Contractor Owner Operators with a gross vehicle weight (GVW) of 20,001 to 40,000 pounds must have a commercial policy with coverage consisting of a single combined limit of $500,000.
- Independent Contractor Owner Operators with a gross vehicle weight (GVW) of 40,000 pounds and higher must have a commercial policy with coverage consisting of a single combined limit of $1,000,000.
- Agents with drivers working for their company must have hired and non-owned coverage, as well as coverage on all scheduled vehicles owned by their company.
