WHAT DOES IT MEAN? LOGISTICS LEXICON

We’re starting a new series in our monthly newsletter called Logistics Lexicon to help our customers understand the acronyms, terms, and phrases they might see related to transportation, logistics, and supply chain management. Today we’ll talk about a bill of lading (BOL).

A bill of lading is a legal document issued by the carrier (the company transporting and delivering a shipment) to the shipper (the company supplying the shipment) that lists the details of a shipment in the form of a receipt. A BOL must be issued for a shipment to go from point A to point B.

A bill of lading should include the following:

  • Name and address of shipper (consignor) and receiver (consignee)
  • Purchase order number
  • Special instructions
  • Date of pickup
  • Description of items
  • Weight and dimensions
  • Type of packaging
  • Freight class
  • Any hazardous materials requirements

Blue Streak offers a range of services and can create a scalable, customized plan to best meet your specific logistics needs. Please contact us for more information.

FUEL SURCHARGE TO REMAIN THE SAME IN MAY

Because there was no increase in fuel charges in the past month nationwide, the fuel surcharge will remain at 7% in May.

How it’s calculated: If the national average price of regular unleaded fuel* is above $1.79 during the last week of any given month, the surcharge will be in effect on the first day of the following month.
